Clean and Polish Your Marble Floors
Marble is a material that is made of a natural mineral consisting chiefly of re-crystallized calcite or dolomite, capable of taking a high polish, occurring in a wide range of colors and variations and use in such things as sculpture as well as architecture and a building material for thousands of years. In today's applications; Marble is also still used today in art as a medium for sculpture and to a lesser degree in architecture as a building material. However we now see this beautiful stone used in such applications such as flooring and countertops.
Pure white marble is the result of metamorphism of very pure limestone. Green coloration is often serpentine resulting from originally high magnesium limestone with silica impurities. These various impurities have been mobilized and re-crystallized by the intense pressure and heat of the metamorphism. Marble needs to be cared for properly. If it is neglected and abused, the natural beauty of the Marble will not be preserved. It is vital to maintain your valuable Marble floor or countertops before damage is visible.
New Marble should always be sealed with a penetrating sealer to help prevent these cracks and chips from starting. Older Marble should be repaired, cleaned, and then finally sealed. A few applications of sealer may be needed on aged Marble which should be applied twice a year for better sealing power. This builds the protection necessary to prevent damage. This maintenance program may vary due to the condition of the Marble.
Remove fine and deep scratches in the marble with a method called Diamond Refinishing. When you use different kinds of metal or resin grits (like diamond pads) the marble is ground to a nice smooth finish. Using multiple products and procedures depending on the stone, Polishing gives the marble its luster. Honing is another method used to remove scratches. This process (mostly used with various limestones) can give the marble a gentle low luster finish, and takes away any shine around the edges of the marble.
Marble repair, (using epoxy) with an array of different tints, begins with filling in all holes or chips and matching the feel and look of the marble. When an epoxy is used (as opposed to grout) it looks as though the marble was never damaged and is smooth and even to the surface. Using a sealing agent seals all marble and this preserves the life of the marble tremendously, and prevents future damage.
Lippage removal is a process to correct uneven marble surfaces left from installation. A lot of times Marble tiles can be higher in different areas of the floor, this is situation is known as lippage. This is done by grinding down the areas. Re-grouting removes all of the old grout and replaces it with a color of the customers' choice.
In some cases wax has been applied to the stone. This is detrimental not only the look of your stone but the life of it as well. The wax covers the marble making it impossible for the stone to breath. If wax is on the floor or other surface, then using strong cleaners made for marble and stone, use a scrub brush attachment to remove the wax build up, which is called stripping, all marble is left spotless. Using a stripper, all wax is stripped clean, and the marble can breathe.
Having a professional refinish (strip, grind, repair, and polish) your Marble applications will bring back the beauty and luster to floors, counter tops or any other application you have in your home..
